Who Are We?

The Idea

Livingston is a relatively large town in Scottish terms. The population is currently over 57,000 and is expected to continue growing, potentially reaching 100,000 in future years. The council cannot afford to build or maintain leisure and community facilities, which is having a huge impact on the wellbeing of our residents.

Our aim is to plan, fund and build new leisure and community facilities in the town. Furthermore, all projects will be undertaken with the community in mind, and will stay under ownership of Livingston Community Developments CIC, the community, or a combination of both. In addition to this, as we are a not-for-profit organisation, with all profits being reinvested back into our projects and the community.

As well as providing support to those less fortunate, we feel there is huge potential within the town to produce the next generation of entrepreneurs, business, and sports people as well. Consequently, we aim to help them realise their potential by providing the facilities and inspiration to chase their dreams.

Furthermore, any new facilities we build will harness green energy such as solar power, with any excess being injected back into the national grid to help contribute to Scotland’s net zero targets.

Livingston Community Developments CIC is being set up solely for the good of the town’s residents, and to ensure people of all ages in the town can find a sense of community, wellbeing and happiness.

Our Projects

The old Boulevard restaurant, also known as The Granary, The Hungry Horse and The Lime Kiln. This may become Livingston's Social Enterprise hub.

Community Pub

We want to take ownership of the old Hungry Horse/Lime Kiln and make it a community owned pub.

Swimming Pool

The idea here is to build a 50 metre swimming pool, possibly with water slides.

Bring back the ice rink! We want ice hockey, ice skating and curling back in Livingston.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are we funded?

CICs (Community Interest Companies) can secure funding through various avenues, including grants from social enterprise funds, ethical investors, and specific social finance institutions, as well as through contracts, trading income, and fundraising efforts.

Can I get involved?

You can help through volunteering, donating, or becoming a member, or even just by promoting our activities and services to your network. Feel free to get in touch using the links below.

What exactly is a Community Interest Company?

A community interest company (CIC) is a type of limited company that aims to benefit the community rather than private shareholders. CICs are social enterprises that can undertake a wide range of activities, from small local projects to large health services.

Will there be any other projects?

We hope so! If these first three projects are successful, we’ll ask the community of Livingston what else they need and want, and take it from there.
